Students and faculty of GEMS Legacy School receiving first place prize from Tareq Al Gurg, CEO of Dubai Cares and Dr. Abdullah Al Karam for creative fundraising ideas in support of Dubai Cares’ effort to deliver quality education to children and young people in developing countries. The team of GEMS Legacy School in Dubai were honoured for their winning charity campaigns on Tuesday. Students and teachers of schools from across the country attended the ‘Dubai Cares Distinguished Philanthropic Award in Schools’ honouring ceremony to celebrate their charitable projects during the Year of Zayed.
The awards, held by Dubai Cares, part of Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, challenges UAE students to come up with and execute creative fundraising ideas. These ideas are in support of the charity’s efforts to deliver quality education to children and young people in developing countries and around the world.
Dubai Cares
On the 10th Anniversary of Dubai Cares, GEMS Legacy School was honoured for its continuous support to Dubai Cares to enable the education of 16 million children from 45 developing countries and provide them with quality education.
Receiving the certificate at The Armani Ballroom from HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice- President and Prime Minister of the UAE, Ruler of Dubai and Founder of Dubai Cares, GEMS Legacy School was the only educational institution in all of Dubai to be recognized and honoured. The school has received the Dubai Philanthropic Award on two occasions as well as participated in the Walk for Education organized by Dubai Cares every year. The school believes in educating the heart and the mind of every child and developing the spirit of generosity. As the famous poet, Khalil Gibran said, “You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give.”
“Our children are the flowing river that gives ceaselessly, asking not where it comes from or to where it goes but nourishing everything it comes into contact with.” We ensure that our children learn through the values modeled by the adults in the school and in the organization, following the lead of the Chairman of GEMS, Mr. Sunny Varkey.
There is no greater reward for the school than to be recognized for the spirit of generosity in the Year of Giving.
Congratulations to my students, staff and parents for this enormous recognition.
